Not sure if I missed it but what hotel did you stay at?
You let prices rise/fall as they may and implement a resident discount. The end goal is to protect local's access to the amenities in their city. Hawaii does something similar in certain cases.
it will be interesting to see what happens,
So - why does noone every mention Hokuriku Arch Pass. Every YT video mentions JR pass is no longer a value, but noone ever offers the alternative. So if you're going to Kyoto or Osaka, get the 7 day Hokuriku Arch Pass. Just got back from a 14 day visit to Japan and this was pass is worth it. The route is relatively new now that the Kagayaki goes all the way to Tsuruga but you now save a little more time too! The only issue you may encounter is the lack of ekiben options if you do a round trip back to Tokyo as the Tsuruga station has only a 7-11.
I've mentioned the Hokuriku Arch Pass many times on this channel in many other videos and guides, and in this video I do mention checking out Regional Passess as a good alternative to the JR pass. The Hokuriku Arch pass since its price increase earlier this year, although still more affordable is no longer the clear cut winner that it used to be. A lot of people would rather pay the little difference to travel directly to to Kyoto / Osaka from Tokyo (A big mistake in my opinion)
does that mean tourist get priority then? caus it means more proffit vs local. who wouldnt sell to tourists first then.
lets see where things settle
🧳
I'm getting triggered 😅 Because I'm gonna be moving to tokyo and they'll think I'm a tourist Because I'm a gajin Also, the Japanese don't know how broke westerners are too It's just we seem to have more money because of the cheaper yen but everyone is struggling in their home country
Additionally westerners are spending more because they have saved up for the trip or the lifetime
@NinjaMonkeyguy exactly 💯 And Japanese do similar when they go abroad You don't see the Phillipines and Thailand doing the same to the Japanese where the yen is worth more 😉
🍣
Thank you for the information :D
i heard there is also the temple hoonji worth the visit
Its a place ive gone back multiple time to.. so much to always discover
This card is only for traveling by public transfer in Tokyo ? Also can you charge it somewhere ?
it can be used in most cities nationwide and can also be used for purchases
@@NinjaMonkeyguy thanks, and how can you (re)charge it, or is it useless once all money on it is used.
@@bbb229 you can recharge at station recharge points or conbini.. I have a train guide that covers part of that if you are interested: ua-cam.com/video/ofMBceVfGlM/v-deo.html
Can you do a short video of using the “japantravel” app to navigate the train platforms… seems self explanatory but in practice, it might be confusing for first timers! I’m practicing “riding the routes” in theory but I’m NOT confident at all!! Coming there in 2 weeks 😂😂 TY
I have a very comprehensive video on navigation around Tokyo / Japan Conquer The world's Craziest Train system: TOKYO ua-cam.com/video/ofMBceVfGlM/v-deo.html
Japan is an example of how to grow up
Do they charge for the physical card?
The normal suica card includes a deposit that you can get back
Question, if I purchase a welcome suica card, can I choose how much credit to add to the card and can I pay by card? Also, if I need to top my suica card, can I top up with card or is it cash only? Thanks!
Once you purchase the welcome suica card you need to top it up and this can only be done with cash. These cards usually come preloaded with either 1000 or 2000 yen. If you have an iphone I highly suggest you setup and use a digital suica instead
is it ok take with me only back bag?
If it suits your style of travel then yes.
How does Visit Japan Web if you have a job overseas and moving there for work? The site is saying to give how long you’re gonna be there but its for a job so i dont know how long i will be there. I am curious because i go there in a few months for work but there is no timeframe of end work.
My channel mainly focuses on tourism entry but if you enter for work then your work should provide a contract with the necessary information to fill in or entry procedures. You will also need a first address when entering Japan
What was your luggage tracker ?? Does it work ??
iphone: Airtag
Going back to Japan This Fall Season. Cant wait.
fall is a great time... anytime is a great time hehe
I've seen things specifically saying not to wear deodorant
Thats a big mistake! Makes sure your deodorant isn’t too strongly scented and you’re fine
Thanks 😊
Thank you very much for your info always accurate and helpful❤. I am going back to Italy on July 10 th after nearly two months spent in Japan where your advices were very helpful for me even if I lived here before to study Japanese and travelled here 4 times before COVID-19. Japan changed a lot after covid but it is still the only place in the world I feel I belong to and where I want to live. Pity that most of jobs available for Italian people here require you to have a Japanese resident card already and to be already subscribed to AIRE ( Italian association of people living abroad) that means as everything in Italy that you need some important connections unless it’s impossible to find a good job here. I envy native English speakers especially Americans because in America if you have some talent you can have a good career and you will not be left behind people who aren’t good at anything but they have important connections.
Thank you for your kind words. Italy is a beautiful country but I am also a firm believe that you can achieve anything you set your mind to! Good luck
Awesome videos as usual. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you
If you miss all trains during the night, can you take a taxi on night time?
yes but they can be expensive
you should definitely bring cash or take some out immediately after arrival. there will always be a need for it at some point. on my last trip i was using suica on my iphone and it worked great for 7 out of 8 weeks, but on the last week topups just stopped working from my CC. I contacted my CC provider and they had no idea what was wrong so couldnt do anything (it seems to have fixed itself since). but this meant that while the suica functionality on my phone worked, i couldnt top it up any more...luckily i still had an old physical suica but of course needed cash to top it up. plus if there is a disaster or something and power goes down you will need cash to pay for stuff. even in japan where they get things back up quickly you dont want to be without water for even a day, especially when it's hot... plus of course there will be some cool little stores/restaurants you see and will spontaneously want to try out that will only take cash. on the rail passes...the overall JR pass is just not worth it financially any more. the regional passes are. for example for a two week trip we will cover the tokyo to kyuushu areas using the jr west sanyo sanin north kyuushuu pass and the hukuriku arch pass for a combined 56000....vs 80000 for a 2 week JR pass...(this kind of only works by starting in osaka but if you're starting in tokyo you could combine the arch pass with a JR east pass) and there are lots of smaller/cheaper JR passes ...unless you dont care about the cost and just value the convenience of the countrywide pass (which is amazing)
Is revolut your number 1 recommendation for travel card?
Its a travel card that has worked for me with minor issues
@@NinjaMonkeyguy what are some of the issues?

Hi. Do you have a guide or tips on how to travel carrying a 32inch monitor from japan to my home country? Planning to buy one this august.
Im not sure who I would go about that, im also not sure if it would be worth it in the long run you'd prob have to put it in your luggage or post it to yourself
@@NinjaMonkeyguy thanks!
Very good video, Nathan! You covered the basics well.
I appreciate that!
I can't go to Japan until next year 😢. Please do live sometimes when you are in Japan so i can feel in Japan too
I will be live most days from happy gaijin channel and will try to continue doing a stream on Sundays on ninja monkey!
perfect!
Been there done that. I have a very enjoyable trip to Tokyo Japan last April with family. The only thing is language barrier when going to the JR stations that we enjoyed some hassles along the way missing the station or going to the wrong way haha. The Japan effect still lingers as I'm hooked collecting anime figures as my joy just need to manage the budget!
The Japan effect got you! welcome to the club
@@NinjaMonkeyguy oh no 😬
We always had the same problem in Cumbria, from where I hale. In those days tourism was mainly a Spring/Summer/early Autumn thing. So in the real touristy areas, such as Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick , etc. the prices went up in April and dropped in October. And everybody paid the same price.
Thank you so much. Could you please do a video about Kansai International Airport? I will arrive there and I can't find information about it
Ive only flown into Kansai international Airport a few but as there really is only one airport and very straight forward as taking the JR Haruka Airport Express to travel between Osaka, Kyoto and Kansai International Airport take around 75-80 minutes and is direct
Interestingly, for certain things, it's a good choice. However, applying that to everything is more complicated. For example, food versus attractions; raising prices at restaurants and markets would be really hectic and complicated in comparison to making a local ticket priced differently from a foreigner ticket when doing an attraction like maybe sky towers or an amusement park. Also, some things are already free to do anyways.

Check out my updated video!!
Increase price for tourists would not solve the issue that Japanese is facing, which mainly is their government sucks at solving problems especially when it comes to economy and population growth. The increasing fee might help ease with over tourism but for how long until the spending gap between locals and tourists becomes wider and wider.
